Customer documents and the driver's license check for self-drive rentals
Customers upload their driver's license and ID on the booking, you choose between a simple license photo or LTO portal verification, and you review and approve everything from the booking. An optional AI check compares the LTO QR code with the license front and shows Pass, Double-check or Fail.

Where documents go
Customers upload documents through their booking portal or the AI chat. Each upload stays with the booking and the customer record it belongs to, and only team members with access to bookings can see it. You review and approve it from your dashboard.
Two ways to capture a driver's license
- Simple license photo (the default): one photo or scan of the license plus its expiry date.
- LTO portal verification: the customer uploads LTO portal screenshots. The QR code and the license front are required, and the license back is optional.
The optional AI check
With LTO portal verification you can turn on an automatic check. The AI compares the name, license number and expiry between the QR code and the license front, then shows Pass, Double-check or Fail. It uses your own AI provider key, and the model needs to be able to read images.
Treat the result as a second pair of eyes, not a decision. On Double-check or Fail, look at the documents yourself before you hand over the car. The QR code also links to the official LTO page so you can confirm it there.
Where to set it up
Open the Customer Documents settings in your vehicles area. There you choose which documents customers upload and how the license is captured. Switching modes keeps your other choices.
Frequently asked questions
What documents should I ask a self-drive customer for?
That is up to you. A driver's license and a valid ID are the usual ones, and you can ask for proof of billing as well. Set what you require in your document settings.
Do I need an AI key to collect licenses?
No. Collecting and reviewing documents works without one. The automatic LTO check is the only part that needs your own AI provider key.
Is the AI check a legal verification?
No. It compares what the documents say and flags mismatches. You remain responsible for deciding whether to rent to a customer.
